For Xavier Foj, this was his Dakar number 27 and the thirteenth one finished consecutively.
For the team, this year race had been marked by two battery incidents, which has diminished podium options. In any case, given hardness of the test and other teams category, we can consider ending in the middle of general classification a success.
From Fojmotorsport Coopertires want to thank our sponsors, especially Cooper Tires, for allowing us stay in the race year by year and giving us a fundamental element in our triumphs: their excelent tires. Thanks to the fans, following the race as passionate as us and giving us their support everywhere we go. Thanks to the media, leaning on us in spite of being a team more modest than others. Thanks to the assistance, Quadafons, for doing their best to making us comfortable at every camp in the route. And, especially, we want to say thanks for the compromise, for working at the hardest conditions, for the ilusion and for the attitude of the three fundamental pillars of this project: Xavi Foj, Nacho Santamaría y Quim Rodón. Thank you, boys, we are very proud of you.
Xavi: “This morning when I went to congratulate Nicolas Gibon, winner of our category, told me yesterday we run really. It is true, I think at this Dakar we have run very fast and we have been able to adapt to ground which in theory were not propitious for us and exploit our strengths. We are very pleased with the result, especially considering the rivals, who have been extraordinaries. We have suffered a lot, but it was worth it.
We would like to thank the behavior of our fans, we know have been tireless. The press, which has supported us as ever, despite being a small and modest team. And to our sponsors who have enabled us to be here today, and especially to Cooper Tires, which is not only our main sponsor, but also provided us with tires, the STT Pro, which have been key in many of the stages to get the result we have obtained.
Thank you very much to all from the podium in Rosario.”
Xavi Foj and Nacho Santamaría, pilot and copilot of the Fojmotorsport Cooperties team, have given the best of themselves to reciprocate the trust that followers and supporters had placed in them. They have worked as never, but it was worth it.
As Xavi says: “It was a tough race from start to finish, we had virtually all the mishaps that can occur in this rally, we’ve seen ourselves many times out of the race, but with courage and work we have been able to overcome obstacles and be here at the podium in Buenos Aires. In addition, there are forty cars of extraordinary quality. I would like to acknowledge the support, and tires, our main sponsor, Cooper Tires, our technical partners and, above all, to the fans, we know they have followed us throughout the race. Right now we are exhausted, just think about rest. Right now we are exhausted, we just think about rest. ”
This was his 25 Dakar.
After a race full of incidents, including a crash and some serious malfunction that almost prevent our team conclude the Rally, Xavi Foj made it to the podium of Dakar, as he has done over the last five years. The third-place finish in this edition, the toughest since it is held in South America, according to experts, tastes as a victory. Despite the hardness and mechanical problems, the team managed to reach the finish line at Valparaiso and reached a third place in T2, only behind the cars of Autobody, the official Toyota factory team.
Xavier Foj and Ignacio Santamaría performed superbly in the 2013 edition of the Dakar rally, and the results speak for themselves. Once again, the Foj-MPA Team stood at the very top of the podium, a just reward for all its hard work throughout the championship.
According to Xavier: “We fought hard and we were victorious. Our rivals didn’t make things easy for us, but we worked well. We remained steady throughout the championship, we tried to hold onto the lead in our category in virtually all the stages and in the end we achieved our aim. We are satisfied because repeating is more difficult than winning for the first time, and with fewer resources.”
After the first, preliminary stages, on the fourth day, which, according to Xavier, was the “key stage”, the Foj-MPA Team took the lead in T2 and held onto that lead right through to the end. Xavier, who is from Molins de Rei, particularly wanted to mention his most direct rival: “Gibon had a superb rally, he was a very worthy rival and I would like to congratulate him on the extraordinary role he has played in this Dakar”. Without a doubt, it was 14 days of constant challenges between these two greats behind the steering wheel.
Another member of the Foj-MPA Team which also deserves every praise is the Toyota Land Cruiser 150. The car performed magnificently. It responded superbly at all times, so much so that, at the mid-way point of this edition, the vehicle remained intact, in perfect condition, with no repairs having been made. The Spanish team’s Toyota was also a true champion, worthy of its top spot on the podium.
Xavier Foj always said he intended to compete in the Dakar 2013 in order to repeat the victory achieved in the previous edition, and he was true to his word. The Foj-MPA Team is proud of having achieved its goal. It has achieved victory in the T2 series production car category and also a splendid twenty-seventh position in the general classification for cars. The Catalan pilot is an emblematic figure in the Dakar rally. We always said that it is impossible to talk about the Dakar without talking about Xavier Foj, and, once again, that has proven to be true.
